Eibach und Audi could not have wished for a more successful beginning at the start of the DTM (German Touring Car Masters) for their new technology partnership. After five years of Mercedes dominance in Hockenheim, the coup de main already succeeded on the first race weekend; the spectacular double victory by Mattias Ekstrom (1) and his team colleague Martin Tomczyk (2) from the Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. Both drivers had an ingenious strategy and drove an almost perfect race. Their car, the Audi A4-DTM, had been thoroughly overhauled for the 2007 season and is on Eibach racing springs for the first time again. For a long time it seemed as if the third place on the Grand Prix track would also go to an Audi driver: new team member Timo Scheider had also had an impressive race and had worked his way to the front, but fell back into ninth place after a crash through no fault of his own with Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler.
